In the interest of being better at promoting myself and driving more traffic to my tribe and to my listings, I am curious about how other people use Tribe.

When you go to tribes do you usually look at the pictures first? Threads first? Does anyone even glance at "Listings", "Events", or at "All Topics"?

Do you have threads sent to your email instead of reading them directly through Tribe?

I usually go to "my" and then to "tribes", and then I look down the list to see which tribes have new pictures up, and I go to those first.

Thanks!

I look at the threads 95% of the time; maybe the pictures if I'm directed to them for something or see one that seems interesting. The only listings I usually look at are those in my messages or from my friends that show up on my homepage. I don't have threads sent to my email. I also read my friends' new blog posts that show up on my homepage.

I don't think many people look at listings, but that's the only place I put info on my classes, etc. because otherwise the threads get clogged with spam.

I think I get more out of friends' blogs than the listings. I don't look at the listings very much--there is a lot of junk in there, and it isn't really moderated, so it's like slogging through a mess most times to get to anything interesting. At least that slogging mess is there instead of in discussion threads!

I delete any spam mails sent directly to me. Most times I don't even live anywhere near the person sending the mail out, and I get frustrated when they just spam their entire network, without consideration of who can benefit. When I send out mailings or listings, I am very careful about who I mail directly, and even which communities I send to the listings, for that reason. I figure if someone from out of town is planning to be in town during the time of my event/listing, then they will go looking for it in the places I have it listed. But to mail them every time I have something is kinda rude.

    That's MY take on it.

I first look to see my friends blog and picture updates. If I didn't do that I'd miss things like "Freja vs the octopus"
      people.tribe.net/darter02/...51ce07730f OMG!

Then I look to the tribes that have new posts. I have my settings to see "all posts"- so I see events, photos, topics and listings all at once for each tribe.
I always check this tribe first- 'cos I have to (it's my "job"), some tribes I don't peek my head in for months.

I keep my settings on "all posts" with the newest thread showing first so I won't miss the latest news.

Also, I handle promotions on Tribe for my instructor who does not have her own tribe. I always post under the Events tab and only to groups that are related to the workshop or show, but not on those that are performer or troupe specific. =O)

I have my Tribe page set up with my Tribes on the top left, friend's blogs on the top right, friends online on the bottom left, and pictures on the bottom right. I don't get threads in my e-mail... my inbox is cluttered enough!

I am always viewing on "All Topics" so that I can see everything new, unless I'm trying to go back to an old thread (which I can only seem to do when I shift over into Topics only, which frankly annoys me).

I'm very visual, and love photos. I also try to keep up with my friends' blogs first, because I think it's fun and friendly to read what they're up to.
