What do you plan to do for your dance business this year?

What has worked that you'll keep the same?
How do you plan to improve your services?
How do you plan to find new/bigger market/clients?
What kind of contribution do you plan to make to your dance community this year?

Persuade the other two people involved in this venture to do things 24 hours early instead of five minutes late.
Oh, and buying a winning lottery ticket figures largely in the new year's business plan.

"Oh, and buying a winning lottery ticket figures largely in the new year's business plan.'

I can get behind that plan :)

Haven't won the lottery yet, but the other two involved in the business ARE doing things earlier rather than later, and it sure takes the stress off which in turn increases creativity and desire to do more work ...

This recession has had a strange impact. We have more and better paying customers for performances lately (maybe we're still cheaper than clowns?) , and more students referred by word-of-mouth, and more students coming back after a hiatus of a few YEARS, BUT fewer students by internet search (which in the past has been the biggest source).

The first week of every month remains butterfly-in-stomach time as we wait to see who will come through the doors.

This is a really good question and begs to answer the question - What is there that is new and will attract new business that hasn't already been done?

I am personally committing to creating more workshop material so that I am more readily available to be booked for such. I have recently released a new line of bellydance and yoga wear that I hope to promote and get lots of publicity for. I plan to be more vigilant about sending out periodic updates about my classes, events, special offers and new merchandise. These I will send out to my e-mail distribution list, as well as posting on all of my social networking profiles, such as here, Myspace and Facebook. Any suggestions as to any other places this can be done? I need to suck it up and do more print advertising. I don't know how much print advertising actually draws direct sales. Name recognition is another thing that is difficult to measure but very valuable.

I am planning a workshop/hafla for the local community in March. I try to bring out of the area instructors to my area at least once a year for local students to get a taste of other styles and teachers.

I'd like to bring some students with me to perform at the senior residence I've been dancing at for the past couple of years on Father's Day.

I'd like to vend my clothing line at a few bigger and smaller events this year and generally increase my sales.

Maybe participate more in on-line discussion threads so that people get to know me/know of me more.

Resolutions? It's hard to say "I'm going to do this, I'm not going to do that." It seems so concrete and inflexible. Rather than use the word "resolution" I like to set intentions and goals to work towards, be flexible enough to work with situations as they evolve and take advantages of opportunities as they arise. I ask for the wisdom to see opportunities and know the right thing to do when I need to take action. And I strive to bring beauty and joy into the world through my work.

Those are my intentions for 2009.

Since being sidelined with a painful right foot and subsequent surgery, I'm finally getting myself back to class Monday, 1/5, with Ava Fleming! Aaaahhhhh.....Ava..... if anyone can kick my dance ass it's Ava!

I need to get back to dance boot camp since I sorta shut down my dance self for a while. If I couldn't do it, I didn't want to see it, hear the music, even look at costumes. It was emotionally painful. I felt like part of me was thrown in jail. Imagine the one thing you want to do more than anything else in the world and suddenly you can't? It's depressing. I mean, the almost-needing-medication type depressing. It was a fight to keep myself from succumbing and falling into the abyss.

So, back to new year, new plans: Get back to class. Find and dust-off my inner dancer. Embrace the music that I've shut out of my head for such a long time. And..... <drum roll>...... get back onto the performance circuit! From dancing 3 - 5 shows a night without batting an eyelash, suddenly the thought of dancing just 1 set is scaring the poo out of me. But, I'm gonna do it. I've got to. I can't NOT do it!

      How's that for plans?

What do you plan to do for your dance business this year?
I plan to give my heart and soul to making my business the best it can be, same overall plan every year actually :)

What has worked that you'll keep the same?
Great customer service and the "boutique experience".

How do you plan to improve your services?
I plan to increase my online presence (promote, promote, promote) and write more articles for publications that I am already advertising in.

How do you plan to find new/bigger market/clients?
Hmmm, viral marketing, advertising in publications and a presence at local and regional events is always a good start. :)

What kind of contribution do you plan to make to your dance community this year?
This is my fifth year as president of our local ME dance association (www.ntmeda.org). We host events for the community such as Cheap Thrills workshops featuring local instructors, social nights out for dancers to support local musicians and dancers, dance scholarships for members and a bimonthly publication. On a personal level, I plan to add hours to my volunteer schedule teaching dance at a women's outreach facility. I plan to coninue teaching my classes locally and spreading the word about all the wonderful things I have learned courtesy of this dance and community.

What are your business New Year's Resolutions?
Work smarter, not harder. Create new local performance opportunities for my troupes.

I moved to an area where there is a very small dance community. And you need to drive an hour just to meetup with a group of dancers. Such a change from D.C. where you can't walk without tripping over a bellydancer.
So my resoultion is to let go of the Ego and look upon this as an opportunity to get out there and introduce this area to the art form of bellydance. I and Amany another dancer managed to get the first paying gig EVER in Lewes DE.
My buisness plan would to add on to the 4 students I have now.
